A disappointment

At the moment when I write this, this book is number 2 in the sales rankings for soccer coaching books. This was the actual reason for me buying the book. I am a youth coach and I like to have as many coaching resources as possible. I have bought about 10 coaching books from Amazon.com based on their user reviews or on their sales rankings.

How this book ranks so high is a mystery to me. It was a disappointment in more than one way.

The diagrams are awful.
The title seems to be just for marketing purposes - there are of course drills in the book, but they are not numbered in any way and some of the chapters don't contain any specific drills, just a few indications.
The drills are not very convincing - many drills where the kids have to wait in line.

I appreciate the hard work of the author and I have got a few good ideas from this book but it is worse than most other books in the same price range that are below it in the sales rankings. (Again: at the moment when I write this, this book is number 2 in the sales rankings for soccer coaching books.)

Skills and Strategies for Coaching Soccer is better.
The Bert Van Lingen book is better - but it has a different approach, one that uses more game-like activities and less drills.
The Horst Wein book is much better.
Coaching Soccer for Dummies is also a good read.
I don't recommend The Soccer Coaching Bible if you are looking for drills.
Knack Coaching Youth Soccer is also nice.
The "Street Soccer DVD - An introduction to small sided games" is also great, but again not the drill based approach.
Haven't read the Baffled Parent's Guide yet.

I hope the author won't hate me. This is a decent book, but in my opinion it is not among the great books on coaching soccer.

Great Book for New Coaches

I am a new coach and use this book regulary for ideas for practice for my 9 year old's recreational team. I like how the chapters are divided into separate sections as to type of drill required: Defense, offense, etc. The author provides very simple step by step drills and pictures to help quickly reference the right skill.

My only complaint, not really a complaint but a suggestion - it would be nice to have some more details on building/progressing each drill - i.e. such as adding defenders or progressing a drill into separate activities (if that makes sense).

Bottomline, I recommend this book to any new or recreational soccer coach that wants to add diverse and fun drills to his/her practice!

In questo testo molte delle idee, degli esempi proposti e molti degli "idioms" sono ottimi e riportati in maniera eccellente.
Purtroppo pero' in vari capitoli ci sono troppi errori di grammatica ed espressioni che non ho mai sentito usare prima.
Trattandosi di "Italian slang" e' naturale aspettarsi espressioni che si discostino dall'Italiano grammaticalmente corretto e data la diversita' di dialetti parlati in Italia e' normale scoprire a volte nuovi modi di dire.
Tuttavia, in molti degli esempi riportati nel testo, l'espressione Italiana (quella che per lo meno io avrei usato) si discosta spesso e di molto da quella proposta nel testo, che in aggiunta presenta errori grammaticali. Per questo motivo ritengo che il contenuto di alcuni capitoli richieda un'attenta revisione.

Rohde is the President of Communications Consulting Corporation, Executive Vice President of Ansoft Corporation, Chairman of Synergy Microwave Corporation, and a partner in Rohde & Schwarz, Munich. He is Honorary Visiting Professor of Electronic and Microwave Engineering at the University of Bradford, UK and is the author of six books. He resides in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey. This Book Rocks!

To the guy who is disappointed in the DSP content: The book's synopsis clearly indicates that it contains SOME DSP material with this statement: "updates on all crucial DSP elements", but that does not mean it's a DSP reference volume. If you want DSP design instruction, try "Digital Signal Processing Technology" or something similar. If you want SDR material, also seek out the appropriately-focused material. This book is meant to be a general design guide and, as such, I think you have done it quite a disservice by unfairly rating it so low, based on only a single aspect of it's otherwise excellent coverage of communications receiver topologies. It's like you had a temper tantrum.

Subtitle misleading

I needed a book on software radio and so I gladly bought this book when I came across it. I expected a lot of detailed information about DSP and software radio.
It's a thick book: 700 plus pages. However, DSP related contents only add up to 50 pages or so. Detailed treatment of software radio cannot be found anywhere. Even the itemized index has only one instance of 'software radio'. This book is mostly on (analog) circuit design issues for amps, mixers, oscillators, PLLs, etc.
I strongly doubt the authors' intention of using the subtitle 'DSP, Software Radios, and Design'. If you want to know more about software radio, you wouldn't get it from this book.

Not at all what I had hoped for.

I was looking for a reference book that had both IPC and UPC requirements with cross-references. This book has neither the Codes or cross references. It appears to be a text book to be used in conjuction with separate Code manuals. It is a failure at that, as well. There are endless pages that just rehash what is in the Codes without adding clarification or depth to what is already presented in the Code books.

An active plumber or plumbing student/apprentice would be much better served by just buying the Code books and working through them on their own.

Sure its Full of Errors -> It's Still #1

First of, no joke I got an 800 on the SAT L2 Math. This book clearly was the most helpfull. At first I did a Kaplan book and it was full of errors. I am in A/E math at one of the best schools in the nation and this book was able to change my score from 700 to 800 in 2 weeks. The errors exist but they are obvious (just assume that their answer is wrong if it doesn't match yours).

SO in conclusion the strategies in this book are great and the problems in this book are excellent however, I would recommend only recommend it to a student who is good (650 to 700) in math or else this book will confuse them.

The editors need more help than the students

This book's purpose is to be a self-help resource for students who want to prepare for the SAT Math Level 2 Subject Test; however, it looks like the people who really need the self-help are the writers and editors. The book is wrought with errors both in the answers to practice tests, the diagnostic test, and even the explanations the book gives. If I hadn't already written in the book to show work, it would be on its way back to the store.

The book has many typographical errors that should have been caught before the book was printed. For example, just in the diagnostic test I found three errors. This makes the book limited value for students since it confuses many of them. It also doesn't allow you to properly judge how well a student is doing.

Technical information about Single Mode, Multi Mode and all other applications, the mathematics and equations behind the science of Fiber Optics in this book are amazing, the first book I've read on this subject and had to have one of my own. not for the beginner, Contains advanced mathematics and theories of Fiber Optic cabling and data transfer, attenuation, and travel distance of different modes. Great Book for the professional FO tech.
