Stu Reininger is a marine consultant and contributing editor to MotorBoating magazine, reporting on boat handling and seamanship. Previously, he served as senior editor of Boating, Power & Motoryacht and Marine Log. Holder of a USCG 100 ton Master’s license, he has worked as a delivery skipper with seven transatlantic crossings. He has also worked as a marine surveyor, charter captain, and master of ferries and other commercial vessels.

A little knowledge goes a long way

Since I jumped into boating rather suddenly, I started buying all kinds of different books on power boating and navigation and the like. This book provided good info on all the basics, from docking to knots and emergencies on the ocean and some rough water handling. Some of the life stories are enough to keep you from getting too over confident and make you think about what your doing or about to do.
Since my boat is 32' uniflite twin, confidence comes slowly without looking stupid in the process.
This book helps to keep me on the right track.
