Prefer "The Robosapien Companion: Tips, Tricks, and Hacks" over "The Official Robosapien Hacker's Guide"

The majority of "The Offical Robosapien Hacker's Guide" is the 11 chapters dedicated to 11 hacks. Some hacks require an additional investment of up to several hundred dollars, while other hacks require small circuits to be built. The author provides circuit diagrams WITHOUT explanations and details of the parts needed, but fails to provide any fundamental Electrical Engineering knowledge. EE 101 students will not have much trouble, but the typical person buying the Robosapien initially as a toy will. My two favorite parts of the book: 1) The $10 WowWee Rebate (expires 12/31/06) towards purchase of a WowWee robot. 2) The chapter dedicated to the disassembly of Robosapien where the author guides you on minimal disassembly for maximum internal exposure. While the author is highly knowledgable in electronics, he is vague and lacks the ability or patience to explain areas in details. The information and presentation of that information is no better than what I would expect to find on someones personal website who was sharing it for fun and not financial gain.

With one and a half million Robosapiens sold in the Christmas season last year, this is the largest selling robot of all time. 99% of them will be played with a little, the novelty will wear off, they'll go in the closet with the rest of the old toys. But that other 1%, maybe that many, will be used as the basis for any of a number of other projects. This book shows how to take the basic Robosapien and convert, modify, add a number of alternative features and capabilities to it.

Some of these 'hacks' include, controlling Robosapien from a home computer, adding any or all of several electronic features to Robosapien, adding a different processor to Robosapien. Several of these hacks would make a very good science project for a high schooler, and would even be a pretty good introduction to abeginning class in electronics.

well structured, but needs supplements

Surgery as a field, is wide and developing rapidly, probably publishing textbooks is not a good idea anymore. This book hits and misses in trying to collect the basics for surgical knowledge and more.
You'll find many missing points which you can fill from the internet or from magazines or other resources.
Most of the chapters are excellent and are probably all what you might need for your college study like those on trauma, diseases of the thyroid and parathyroid, metabolic response to injury etc.. but there are some which are disasterous like the chapter on breast conditions, but probably the subject itself is complex and controversial anyway.
The text overall is very well written and the structure and design of each chapter is very logical, some figures are not so great though, plus the book needs an update. you might consider supplementing it with Surgical clinics of north amarica for some of the chapters you read.

Mistakes with Articles!

I'm an adult, learning German and I felt a fun book like this with pictures to help me remember the nouns would be a lot easier to learn from than just plain text to read.

It is that, it's good to see the picture and associate that along with the English meaning. The problem is on a few occassions (about 3) the articles were wrong. The book said the noun was a 'der' when it was a 'die' and so forth. This was huge to me because when learning German nouns, you must know the right article in order to use them in sentences correctly.

A great resource for Kids and Adults

This is a terrific book. Anytime my girls (3yrs and 6yrs) or I (the mom) want to know what that thing in everyday life is in German, we take a look in this book and we find it as well as a lot of other related words. My 3yr old likes to just look at the pictures even. Quite a few of them put me in mind of the Where's Waldo book pictures.

Praxis Review

I've been trying to cram in work, study and graduate classes into my days for quite a while now. This book is thin and portable and is read whenever I have lunch or when I'm home in the afternoons and have everything else completed. I like the book, like how its set up and appreciate the fact that it has included within its pages Praxis II sample questions because I also need to take it to fulfill my degree requirement. Great study tool.

Excited to get a Kindle version, I was DISAPPOINTED to find that many of the example questions are unreadable--even with "magnification."

It seems these examples are "pictures" rather than text. They lack both sufficient size and the necessary contrast. With my (corrected) astigmatism they are, again, unreadable.

A pity. The Kindle is a great format for this type of book.

So now I'll have to lug an unwieldy book around...

Great for Praxis I, but not II

This book disappointed me. I wanted a book that would help me with Praxis I and Praxis II. This one does not. They claim they do and that is why I bought it. They give all kinds of aid for Praxis, but VERY little for II. Since I already have a book on I, this book sits and I'll probably get rid of it.
Not recommended if you're looking to improve your Praxis II score.

Has Value To The Professional & Do-It-Yourselfer Alike

This Handbook covers everything you could possible want in clearly organized sections & easily understood explanations. It covers & explains every commonly needed aspect of the Plumbing Code & later goes on to explain Installation of everything it talks about in the code section, followed by an explanation of Troubleshooting & Repairs. This book includes a CD-ROM which night be valuable to a plumber as it contains a large variety of trade related business forms. However, this book contains few illustrations/photos & none are color. The book assumes a certain level of knowledge in some areas, i.e., it makes frequent reference to zones 1, 2, & 3 but never explains them, & it includes some diagrams which will be unclear to many outside the trade. Acronyms are defined once & good luck in locating the definition later because you cannot find them in the index. I'm glad I have this book, but for complete coverage, particularly for those of us not in the trade, others books will be needed.

The only book needed for pscyh clerkship

I bought this book at the beginning of my psych clerkship and would go through a chapter each week to study. I felt like the questions were slightly hard, but figured that since I was able to get a passing score with each chapter section, then I would do well on the shelf exam. I ended up doing extremely well on the shelf exam using only this resource.

Buy any other review out there. This is a total waste of time. too technical of questions and didnt benefit whatsoever for actual shelves. I have heard the others are much better but not sure of the name, pre-test i believe.
