Even for a ChemE it was Enjoyable

I used this book several years ago for an advanced field effect device course in graduate school. In the beginning of graduate school I was lost when it came to understanding semiconductor devices as I had previously done my undergraduate work in chemical engineering. After hitching a ride on the Sze and Tsividis train, I was ready to go. This book is well written, concise and does not leave out detail. A truly remarkable text. It turned a frustrating subject into one I enjoy and appreciate. My only warning is; I hope you are good at math :)

A new updated edition would be nice. While the industry is still battling short channel effects, the techniques covered in the text are a bit out of date.

Excellent! Remarkable.

Just reading the Preface to this book, I fell in love with the author. I completely agree that sometimes the most rigorous and careful treatment of a subject actually makes it possible to study the material faster!! What always frustrated me and slowed me down in reading other books was the sloppiness and hand waving. It's amazing that many Ph.Ds and even authors of famous books like Uyemura's "Fundamentals of MOS ICs" don't understand the simple body effect, and talk about complete nonsense showing a 2 terminal capacitor with Vb applied to the bulk, and saying that the Vt will now change by the sqrt(Vb) body effect. They don't understand that the body effect is a 3 terminal effect and in 2 terminals if you apply Vb to bulk then your Vt will have to increase by Vb--NOT sqrt(Vb)!!! This book is a delight. Just the material on contact potentials was worth the money.
If you are serious about really understanding MOSFETs, if you hate non-sense and hand waving, then this book is for you.

Just a masterpiece........

I am a graduate student with main area of interest in Mixed mode design,testing and device modelling.This book was suggested to me by my proffessor.It is the book for MOSFET.I have read many books on this topic like Tyagi,Foty,massobrio etc but this books stands apart.It is a very well written book.Its progress is very logical going from two terminal device to four terminal device with very good explanation of the physics.More importantly the emphasis on the approximations made makes things clearer.....
For a person working with Mosfets it is a must......

Brilliant! Delightful to Read! Packed with Information!

"Wireless Internet Crash Course" is brilliant, delightful to read -- even humorous in places (I chuckled several times at the authors' subtle sense of humor)and is packed with tons of information and statistics! As an analyst for a major investment banking firm, I found this book to be exactly what it claims to be: an insiders perspective which clearly provides answers to the confusing world of the wireless internet, in a language that is easily understood.
The book is divided up into six chapters that take the reader through a brief historical perspective in chapter 1(some interesting facts). Chapter 2 makes sense of the competing technologies in words that non MSEEs can understand, while chapter 3, filled with charts and graphs, provides detailed market research statistics and market drivers (the authors have quoted many leading research firms' figures)-- also there are some insightful comments on the market case studies which look at both the Japan and Finnish markets, and the new generation of customers--teenagers. Chapter 4 is quite compelling in identifying key applications and new business opportunities. Chapter 5 covers key issues- billing, security, privacy, and Chapter 6 is fascinating, providing a glimpse into the future of wireless internet. The chapters are far reaching in breadth and depth, contain many illustrations: graphs, product pictures, so that the reader walks away with a solid understanding of the technical, product, market and business base. In addition, all the wireless industry lingo and acronyms were very clearly defined in the glossary and the appendix sections contain very useful web-site information and further suggested reading. This not only helped me in my reading, but also makes this a great future reference guide. Overall, this book delivered much more than it promised and exceeded expectations, and was a delight to read.

Must Read

Wireless Internet Crash Course is a must read for newcomers to the world of wireless, the internet space or people who want to know about the future of conversion of communications and computing. The only reason this review is a 4 not a 5 is I am a wireless engineer and I was interested in learning more detailed descriptions of the technologies. This book has a very good explanation of the history of cellular and provides excellent market data and business applications. The book also has a useful glossary and a fairly detailed listing of websites and other books to get more information. The authors do a great job explaining some technical and market topics in an easy to read, easy to understand way. Definitely worth your time. This is a good buy.

You know that the wireless internet is about to change the world, it is one of the hottest subjections around. This book is for the " ideas men " that will be in the driving seat of that change. It provides clear, concise information about where the technology is now and where it is likely to go in the future. It even lists potential applications and their benefits, market size projections and actrual case studies, and outline future tgrends. There is enough detail to allow you to converse with the technologists, while keeping the manager's perspective, where new ideas are born. This book is insightfull! and quite enjoyable.

A Must Read For All Sales Professionals

Whether you are rookie sales person trying to get ahead, or a veteran sales person looking for some fresh ideas on how to grow your business, this is the book for you. Bill Stinnett has really raised the bar on sales books in my opinion and provides easy to understand strategies and techniques for becoming a valuable partner with your customers.

Think Like Your Customer gives easy to understand processes and strategies for outselling your competition and becoming an invaluable asset to your customers. Unlike most books which share only cute strategies on getting a customer to say "yes," Think Like Your Customer spells out specific strategies on developing value and goodwill towards your prospects and customers. Each transaction must be mutually beneficial for both the customer and your company and often times many sales people forget this. Bill points out the extreme long-term value of developing this kind of approach and ultimately this kind of relationship with the customer and how it pays off in real dollar opportunity for you and your company.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone that is looking for that edge over competition and wants to truly develop a long lasting relationship with their customers. It is a book that is jam packed full of excellent information that will have the mind racing and your heart pounding to get out there and get to work. It is a book that I know I will be returning to over and over again for both inspiration and motivation.

Essential real-world advice for all salespeople

As a sales and marketing executive with 20 years experience selling high-end products and services to Fortune 500 customers all over the world, I thought I already knew how customers think. How wrong I was. Bill Stinnett's terrific "Think Like Your Customer" is chock full of practical and easy-to-use techniques to connect with prospects and to sell effectively. The book provided tons of ideas I had never even considered. What an eye-opener!

This isn't gobbledygook from some sheltered MBA professor. Bill presents his essential advice based on decades of practical experience as a highly successful sales rep as well as a consultant and speaker to the world's greatest sales teams. I was particularly drawn to the hundreds of personal anecdotes and stories Bill tells about winning (and losing too) that help to illustrate the points in the book. The book reads like the sales VP you admire most in the world taking you to lunch every day for a month and spilling all his secrets and stories!

This is a book you will turn to again and again. In fact, maybe you should buy three copies: one for the office, one for the briefcase, and one for home.

Valuable tools to use right away

When I read books on persuasion, I'm looking for effective tools. One of the reasons I like this book is that it has valuable information I don't remember seeing elsewhere.

The chapter on what customers really want is worth far more than the price of the book. It identifies the factors that must exist for a customer to buy from us. And it teaches how to weave key questions about these factors into our informal conversation with the customer.

Another example: The book teaches how to learn what specific results a customer really wants and how to tie that to our product or service. The specific "result" a customer wants may differ greatly from the generic benefits we assume our product or service's features provide.

I've found that using Stinnett's tools to focus even more on how the customer thinks increases sales and the number of satisfied customers.
