Easy to read and use

I too have read a lot of project management books, and found this one to be one of the best. It is written clearly and simply and is helpful to both new and experienced project managers. It is a good book overall. I might recommend a certain chapter from book X and a different chapter from book Y to someone, but I would recommend this whole book.

Outstanding Project Management Reference

As someone who is new to project work, I was looking for a book that would be somewhat easy to read, yet informative. This book definitely did it! It is very well organized and tells the story of a project manager who was introduced to project management by accident. The topics are introduced in easy to read chapters that unfold in the same order as projects do - very helpful in understanding how things "fit".A lot of good information is provided on planning, team-building, budgeting, scheduling, communication, documentation and project close-out. The book is loaded with tips on how to do things better or smarter.This book helped me really understand project management and gave me a number of the tools I need to be able to manage my projects successfully. If you're an experienced project manager, this book may seem a bit basic, but would still be a good review.

From a Performance Consulting Perspective

This book is a down-to-earth, hands-on guide for new project managers as well as for those who are experienced, but still struggling with attaining successful implementaiton of projects in their organization. It provides a very "grounded" approach--the author's extensive "real life" experience was obvious. The book focuses largely on the technical aspects of projects, but also very nicely brings to light the key human elements (effective team leadership, stakeholder management and communication) that are critical for project success. I also liked how it mixed the strategic and tactical elements of project management into a kind of "best practices" guide to project managers. The layout and storyline are designed to be a quick, easy reference and a fun read.
From the perspective of both consulting and project management within my own firm, but also in my experience of working with clients who struggle with understanding and implementing successful projects, this is an excellent resource for them.

comprehensive and accessable

I recently bought Fast Facts-Sexually Transmitted Diseases-inadequate ,not even suitable for an undergrad,but the book under review is a horse by another colour,its all here for the non-specialist, particularly helpful is its advice and algorithms for patients whose symptoms persist in spite of repeated clear tests,the only minor complaint was that it did not address the poorly named male pelvic congestion syndrome in its discussion of ongoing symptomatology where a clear cut cause is being elusive, however maybe that is one for the urologists rather than venereologists.An invaluable primary care reference.

Great Book for MBB Instructors

This book was just right for us. It had the right mix of exercises that made the DMAIC steps more fun to teach and ensured that the class got engaged with the material.

I liked the fact that it also had exercises on Change Management and Team Dynamics

What I found most useful was the website that gives all datasets and template which made preparation for the exercises a breeze.

Here is the website it would be hard to use without the book but you can go take a look and see if has stuff that interests you.

Brand New Condition

In my assessment class, we haven't used the book outside of regular chapter readings. I've used it as a reference for the assignments we are doing and for the midterm we are about to take. For instance, it explains that calculations of Z and T scores, standard deviations, and reliability/validity in detail. It has been helpful in explaining things that I didn't grasp completely during lecture. My professor is an excellent lecturer and I know that I can usually get the clarification I need from from taking my time and just reading. However, I noticed that the yellow sticker (label) at the bottom right of the cover says (for use outside the United States). It's an international student version, which can't be resold in North America. There is also content in this version that is not in the version sold here in the U.S. I don't know exactly what it is or what that means in terms of usefulness to me for my class or as a future clinician, but I was a little concerned. I don't know if I should be or not, but the label wasn't clear as you can tell by looking at it on the amazon web page. When you enlarge it to see the cover, the label is not there, so go figure. Otherwise, it's in English and it has been helpful and I planned to keep it.

Good introduction to Control Systems Analysis and Design.

This book is a good pratical introduction to control systems.It covers all the basic stuff like Bode and Nyquist diagrams,root locus and an introduction to state space design and analysis techniques.It is divided in modules which are (nearly) independent one from the other.The real strength is the very large number of solved clear exercises from which you can gain a lot of hints.While not a complete theory book(for this use "State Space and Input-Output Linear Systems" by Delchamps)it has a nice intuitive theoretical approach to many subjects.Also good for the beginning students are a lot of examples from basic mechanics and circuit theory.On the whole a good and engaging text for the newcomer to the control systems area.

Slightly misleading

The book does have good content, stories, and 'I know what you're thinking details'. The only thing missing is the actual writing of sir Wingnut himself. When you buy a book entitled 'Wingnuts Complete Surfing', one would expect to read about stories and insight into longboarding from Robert Weaver himself and not one of his buddies using his likeness to create a book project. That's akin to getting a book metaphorically called 'Tiger Woods' Complete Golf' and having it written by one of his former caddies. The information may be spot on and very usable, but the romanticism, for lack of a better word, would be missing. The book does feature Wingnut in many, if not most, of the photo sequences (from popping up to nose-riding). Buy the book if you're a beginner looking for some all around general information on an easy-going/easy-flowing style of surfing and not that you'd like to read the thoughts of one of the kings of longboarding.

I liked it

I am an occasional surfer who had the opportunity to spend more time in the water than usual in the last few months. So I decided to read something about the sport and really liked this book.
The text is fluent and the pictures are great. I like very much the sequences which I found very effective to explain the point to the non experienced surfer.
English is not my moth language but still I had no problems reading through the book.
I suggest this book to beginners to intermediate surfer who want to get ideas for improvement.

So far, I have read half this book and it has to be one of the most boring books on surfing I've ever read.

It is very plain, the stories are slow to evolve and the how-to seems to take up most of the book. If you are an entry level surfer, you might find this book interesting but definitely not fun or entertaining.

This book is an example of someone using another person's name recognition to sell a book. Save your money and find something else to read.
